Asher's 2 month check-up
Asher and I were in the Medical Center for about 5 hours today. Nothing bad, just getting his first round of shots and shortly after I began my first 'Pre-Employment' day at the Hospital. Scheduling these two things around the same time proved to be successful...once the day was finished I could say that of course.
Asher continues to grow very well according to Dr. Alley. Its always reassuring to hear this since he is still on 100% breastmilk. I am providing enough for my little guy!
Head: 60th %-tile 16 inches
Weight: 60th %-tile 12 lbs 2 oz.
Lenght: 90th %-tile 24 inches!! Mr. String Bean!
Doug and I still need to confirm where we'll be sending Asher while I start my orientation on Friday, July 10th. Fortunately I put him on plenty of waiting lists when I started my 3rd trimester. Many of those facilities have spots for him, so now Doug and I need to make a firm decision. It's estimated I won't be working 'on my own' till December! So in the meantime I work side-by-side with my preceptor on my unit and attend classes till I'm deemed fit to work in the Children's Special Care Unit.
p.s. If you're wondering why the Cookie Cake has Doug's name on it...well Asher decided to share his birthday cookie with his dad. Cookie Cake is Doug's favorite, and he wanted to make sure his dad fully got to celebrate his big day.
Happy Birthday Avery!
This past Friday, June 26th our niece Avery turned 3 years old. The following day her parents threw an awesome Princess & Pirate Party. Cinderella came to visit her guests and all the little babies that out-numbered the older kids. Too cute. I love Woody's face in this one...Here is Asher with Grandma Crawford.

I have a 'real' job...again!!
Despite hoping to not return to work until Janurary 2010, Doug and I decided its best for our family for me to start work in July. I believe our prayers were answered because while most internships only start twice a year, the one I hoped for opened up slots for a new class to begin in a few short weeks. I'll be working in the CSC (Children's Special Care) Unit aka Step-down Floor at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital. We've decided since I would like a night position-- who knows, I may not get a choice ;)-- that Asher should go to day care part time. It'll also allow me to keep my sanity by allowing me some time gym time.
Update: They did offer me a day shift 7A-7P but I asked for night shift instead. It was available!
Speaking of Asher--who is 8 weeks old today--this is the 3rd night in a row he's slept through the night. We thought it was a fluke the first night, then the 2nd rolled around...I look for trends and that's what this is looking like. So he'll fight us for a while between 9-11PM but then crash till 6:30 or 7AM. I say 'fight' because during his 'wake-eat-burp-play-poop-nap' cycle the nap part is significantly shorter in the late evening time. That's fine with me though if it allows Doug and I to sleep through the night. I have learned the hard way though I should still wake up every 3-4 hours to pump...waking up engorged is painful and not fun when I think I can make it to the gym by 5:30AM.

Happy Father's Day!
Happy Birthday Doug!
Busy Weekend!
This weekend was a very busy one. On Saturday alone I had 2 showers and we had 2 birthday parties to attend. Unfortunately my '97 Jeep Cherokee decided to overheat on me...fortunately as I was just entering the neighborhood early Saturday morning after the gym. So that wiped out my trips to League City for Cynthia's shower and The Woodlands for JoAnn's shower. :( We were able to go to Cypress since we were all in the same car together. My cousins Elissa & Jackie's birthdays fall back to back, so their parents split their cake to reflect their 'interests'. Ha.As you can see from these photos, Brandon loves his cousin Asher. He's always wanting to give him hugs and kisses. Very sweet...

Asher waking up...6 weeks
Asher's wake-ups are very sweet at 8AM and during his afternoon naps. He likes to enjoy just S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G and talking...his baby talk. I love it. Today I thought I'd get a good clip of it, but unfortunately his diaper was FULL of poop, so he was not his usual cheery self. Nonetheless, I think you'll enjoy this.

Resemblance to cousin?
My mom brought up a photo I had taken of my nephew/godson Brandon when he was teeny tiny and wearing an A&M shirt. She said it looked alot like Asher! I've put it together along with another photo I took of Brandon while he was hanging upside down with "Toe" aka Lito aka Abuelito aka Grandpa. They're all together to compare. Asher is on the left while Brandon is on the right. What do you think? I think I'll retry it when Asher is a little older.

I was delivering Asher. Wow, time has really flown. At 3 weeks Doug and I just couldn't believe 3 weeks had past...so you can imagine how fast 6 have gone. Our little man is 11 lbs, 1 oz. I'll get a picture of him on the scale soon so you can see 'Eva' (it looks like the character on Wall-e). We've been taking him out more, usually just to a grandparent's house-- but he did survive 3 trips to restaurants last week! He didn't get fussy and just wanted to eat, sleep, or just observe what was going on at the table. I love that about him... Here are some photos of Asher reading with his dad. Doug is all about reading "The Sneetches" and "The Butter Battle Book". If you click on any of the photos, you can see it enlarged. So I hope you see Asher's smile on the first one! Enjoy.

Asher at 5 weeks
Mr. Asher is weighing in at 10 lbs 10.5 oz now. We can't expect a huge weight gain since he's given breastmilk 100% of the time. ('Those that know' say that breastfed babies typically weigh less than those formula fed). I'm just sharing some videos of him waking up today. He's at a point where he's 'wavering' from the routine we had established. No biggie, he's only a few weeks old. And he's just an hour or so ahead or below the original schedule.

Happy Birthday Felicia!
Bragging on my cousin Romeo...
For a few weeks this in May we were able to enjoy some time with my cousin--who is also my godbrother--Romeo Garcia III aka JR. He's going to be a junior next semester at the Naval Academy and he has been starting for past 2 years on their basketball team. He came to visit Asher at our house and we were able to see him in Cypress on a little send-off dinner. I love him so much and miss having him so close by...nonetheless I am very proud of what he's doing and glad he chose the Naval Academy for his studies! I also couldn't help but post this photo of him as a little chunky butt. He was over 12 lbs when he was born and I think 23 or 24 inches! I'll have to confirm with my godmother... He's now over 6'4" and he towers over the two oldest grandchildren--my sis and I-- and you can see that his sisters tower us as well. Here is Asher next to a photo of one of JR's sandals...they're nearly the same size! haha.
